At the time of the trade, it was considered an even or potentially favored CO. The 1st round AND Compher as well as a pretty solid prospect in Zadorov was a large haul. Grigorenko was a reclamation project, mishandled as well as being a fickle Russian from the start in Buffalo. So far they have lost the project and are working on a contract with the young D stud, have the 1st and Compher is going to be a starter this year or next.
And may it be remembered that ROR had 1 year left on his contract, and has signed for market value since. |

Buffalo may have won that trade, but it was still the first of MANY mistakes that Murray made, in a failed attempt to rebuild this organization.
Murray signed a 2nd line center to a 7.5 mil contract for 7 years. That's the first mistake. Can O'reilly be a top line center? Sort of. On a team that's seriously challenging for the Cup, then the answer is no. There is no way he is a #1 center on a Stanley Cup winning team. Murray made this deal, or type of deal way too early into the rebuild process, and gave out #1 center money KNOWING he had a sure fire can't miss prospect in Jack Eichel (and'#2 OA pick Sam Reinhart).
To say Buffalo won this trade isn't a very accurate assessment of this deal. I would say that Colorado lost and both teams suffered in some way(s).
In a perfect world, ROR would be making 5-5.75, and playing 3rd line center. His lack of speed bothers me, especially with that contract. Plus, he'll be 27 soon, with a lot of hard minutes and already a ton of milage on the tread. He might be one of those guys who hits the wall very early in his career. He already looked a step slower last year. That could be because he was over used, but we shall see. |

Really? A lot of Sabres fans think ROR is among the elite centres in the NHL.

Really? I don't think most Sabre fans think ROR is elite, but thanks for speaking for everyone.
ROR is a very good center but not elite. His defensive game is above average, his offensive abilities are good but not great, good on the faceoff. All this makes for a very good center but still a tier or 2 below a Crosby, McDavid, Stamkos, or Kopitar |

I said ' a lot'. I didnt speak for all of you. You are clearly more realistic and reasonable than the Jabronis I referenced. |

It still will take a long time to see how this trade pans out bc it was such much of a futures trade and the complete trade tree has some important but missing elements to to it. Right now Zads is the oldest piece in this trade at 22. Still won't know until guys are 23-24 to see if they have NHL impacts
Sabres:
ROR
McGinn - Traded for a 3rd - Traded for Veseys Rights.
Avs:
Zads
Compher
Grigs
31st Overall - Traded for 2nds and a 6th (AJ Greer, Cam Morrison, and Denis Smirnov)
AJ Greer is a important element here, AHL Rookie season, being an allstar, good production playing that power forward agitator style. Excited to see him and Compher reunited at the NHL level very soon |

None of you guys noticed that Garth went on and on about Duchene only having one year left? Before and after pasting in a commentary from Friedman, which included Duchene having two years left being mentioned?

Pointing out errors in Garth's posts is like declaring water is wet. |

Z was a beast last season towards the end.. if he can continue that, and get better.. quicker.. it's an awesome trade.
If he bails.. we lost.. unless Compher turns into super Joe 2.0......

Yeah, Sakic got fleeced on the Orielly trade. We only have a beast of a young Dman out of it, a young kid (Compher) who was compared to Chris Drury, Cam Morrison, AJ Greer, yeah no.
Personally I'd love to know more about the new Ristoraunts that have opened up in the Buffalo area. I hear they're expensive? |
